"The object of art is not to reproduce reality, but to create a reality of the same intensity."~Alberto Giacometti
oil on canvas
36 3/8 x 28 7/8” (92.3 x 73.2 cm)
Giacometti’s paintings of his wife, Annette, are by far my favorite pieces by him. He studied art intensely, even as he says going “fifty thousand times to the Louvre" to copy the art in attempt to learn and reproduce. It seems, his art work drastically changed after Annette entered his life. It’s almost as if she allocated him more freedom and courage and true sensation-how wonderful.
