Study for ‘The Lady Clare’
Red chalk on paper
36.8 x 48.3 cm
She clad herself in a russen gown,
She was no longer Lady Clare:
She went by dale, and she went by down,
With a single rose in her hair.
Lady Clare - Alfred, Lord Tennyson
I am practicing master copies of every romantic Waterhouse drawing that I can find; Lady Clare has been a favorite.
note: Waterhouse was known by his family and friends as Nino.
